D.C. Film 101

From Jaia Thomas:

As the city of Washington DC continues to make strides towards becoming a premiere location for television and film production, Singularus Productions presents a unique all-day workshop at Source Theater entitled “How to Make a Film in Washington DC 101” on February 4. Geared towards novice and experienced filmmakers, the all-day workshop features a series of panels discussing such topics as: film finance, casting, editing, marketing and distribution. As opposed to providing piecemeal information over the course of several workshops, this one-day workshop will provide attendees with all the tools and knowledge necessary to shoot and distribute a film in Washington DC.

Sample panelists include:

- Carol Davis, Casting Director

- Ty Ford, Videographer and Editor

- Otessa Ghadar, DC Filmmaker of the Month (July 2011)

Annual Poetry Slam Showcases DC SCORES Student-Athletes

Last night, November 30, DC SCORES held the first part of their annual Poetry Slam at the Columbia Heights Education Campus.

Student athletes from 14 DC SCORES elementary and middle schools took to the stage and put on quite a show.

Each elementary school performed two original group poems and one original individual poem, while teams from the participating middle schools performed one, two, or three songs that grew out of their original poetry.

In the elementary school group, Bancroft took 3rd place, H.D. Cooke took 2nd place, and Perry Street Prep claimed the top prize.  Shaw won first place for the middle schools, and Lincoln was awarded second.

Read a full recap on the night that was on DCSCORE blog.
