Community Humane Heroes Honored 10th Annual Sugar & Champagne Affair

Community Humane Heroes Honored 10th Annual Sugar & Champagne Affair

What do Nationals’ pitcher John Lannan and DC Councilmember Mary Cheh have in common?  They are both being honored by the Washington Humane Society for their commitment to helping WHS end animal cruelty and pet homelessness. To celebrate a decade of Sugar & Champagne, this year for the first time ever, WHS is celebrating these special individuals and businesses with Humane Hero Awards.

“WHS is honored to have amazing community partners who advocate for animals. These men and women truly care about our mission and their work to support us has made a huge impact on the animals were care for.  These Humane Hero Awards are just a small token of our gratitude,” said Lisa LaFontaine, WHS President & CEO.

Attend the Red Carpet Premiere of Collide

Attend the Red Carpet Premiere of Collide

Collide, the new motion picture from DMV filmmaker Master June Daguiso, will premiere this Sunday at the Burke Theater. Collide is the latest action film from the Virginia resident and martial arts expert, who also stars. The movie tells the story of three criminals from different cultures whose paths inexorably cross in the U.S. Although an indie film, Collide has been three years in the making and was partially shot on location in El Salvador.

Collide will have its red carpet premiere this Sunday December 19 with showings at 11AM and 2PM. As of this writing, the 11AM showing is nearly sold out. Tickets are $15, but contact me for info on how to get in for half price.

Behind the scenes at the National Christmas Tree lighting

Behind the scenes at the National Christmas Tree lighting

The National Christmas Tree is a great holiday tradition in the D.C. area and best of all, it's free! I was lucky enough to get access as preparations were made for the tree lighting event that took place December 9. The event will be televised on public television and will feature some terrific musical performances including the great B.B. King, Maroon 5, Sara Bareilles, and Ingrid Michaelson. I want to single out 10 year old Jackie Evancho, who gives an amazing rendition of "O Holy Night." Catching the broadcast is worth it for that alone.
