Top 10 DC area French restaurants

WASHINGTON (USA TODAY) -- Do you love French food? Or is it the ambiance that draws you in?

The experience of dining at a French restaurant can be just as good as the food -- the multiple courses; the relaxed, go-at-your-own-pace, slowness of enjoying a meal bite for bite; the ambiance that's so uniquely Francais, whether the restaurant mimics a French country inn or a Paris bistro.

There are several restaurants in the district that offer both a delicious menu AND the ambiance of dining in France. The newest French restaurant on the DC dining scene is le Diplomate. Sit under the red awning long enough and you'll imagine you're dining al fresco at a Parisian cafe.

Redskins await word on both starting safeties

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins could be without both of their starting safeties when they play Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Free safety Brandon Meriweather faces a fine and possible suspension after being flagged twice for helmet-to-helmet hits in the Redskins' 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The NFL said Monday that Meriweather's fouls are being reviewed for potential discipline. Coach Mike Shanahan said he doesn't think there will be a suspension, but Meriweather's history of helmet-first hits makes it more likely that the league will go beyond the usual fine.

Meanwhile, strong safety Reed Doughty suffered a concussion in Sunday's game. He will have to pass the league's required tests before he can be cleared to play in next week at Denver.

NFL may force teams to do 'Hard Knocks' on HBO

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The NFL is trying to spread ''Hard Knocks'' around.

At their fall meetings Tuesday, owners approved a measure that allows the league to choose which team will be the focus of the documentary-style show if no club volunteers.

Certain teams would be exempt from being forced to participate in the filming:

- those with new coaches;

- those that reached the playoffs in one of the previous two seasons;

- those that appeared on ''Hard Knocks'' within the preceding 10 years.

So far, only seven of the 32 NFL teams have been on the series, which airs on HBO: Dallas Cowboys (twice), Cincinnati Bengals (twice), New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Lets Be Real: Lets pick a new name for your Football team

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- So even if the Redskins owner Dan Snyder agreed to change the team name today, that would just start another big argument over what the new name ought to be.

That is unless Snyder is smart enough to let me have my way.
