WHS Alumni Update

We celebrate a few of this week’s alumni below. Please help us make more alumni this weekend—check out our end of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month Meow Mixer on Saturday for your last chance to adopt a feline friend for no fee! The event will take place at our Behavior & Leaning Center at 7315 Georgia Avenue NW, from noon to 5 p.m. If now isn’t a good time to adopt, consider joining our life-saving foster volunteer team.

Katarina Vilkman has kept up with us through the years after she adopted pup Mahogany and took several WHS Behavior & Learning classes and private training sessions. Her latest happy update—the family is officially growing:
“Dan and I got engaged and we included Mahogany in our engagement photo session! The photographer just loved her!”

National Fire Dog Monument Arrives In DC

WASHINGTON, D.C., (WUSA)  - After a 2,000-mile, 12-city cross-country tour honoring the four-legged and two-legged heroes who keep our communities safe, America's newest national monument - the first-ever National Fire Dog Monument - arrived to a hero's welcome of its own in Washington, D.C.

Officials representing America's firefighters, arson dog teams, and advocates greeted the seven-foot-high, 450-pound bronze statue of a firefighter with his arson dog in a reception at the American Humane Association headquarters.

The monument toured the country thanks to the sponsorship of State Farm, the only North American company which provides funding for the acquisition and training of arson dogs in the United States and Canada.
