"Make Your Food Better, And People Will Come To You": The Great D.C. Food Truck Debate

It’s unbelievable to think that just a few years ago the D.C. food truck scene consisted of nothing more than those standard hot dog/pretzel vendors that prey on tourists by the National Mall.

You know the trucks I’m talking about…the ones that are all painted that exact same yellowish color and have that same generic cartoon soft pretzel icon that looks ten times better than the one you end up purchasing.

How times have changed.

The D.C. food truck scene has absolutely exploded in the past year, featuring an emergence of creative, multi-cultural cuisine at affordable prices.  From Asian to Latin American, from Indian to Ethiopian, virtually every type of food is represented and can now be found on the streets of Downtown D.C.  The scary thing for restaurants is that the streetcar fare is actually good now…really good.  So good, in fact, that they might actually be stealing some of the old establishment’s lunch crowd.

Tackle Box Coming To Cleveland Park! Who's Excited?

Tackle Box is coming to Cleveland Park!

The beach inspired fish shack currently has a location on M Street in Georgetown, and they will be opening on Connecticut Avenue in Cleveland Park next to the Bank of America in the "Winter of 2011".

Tackle Box, which will occupy the old McDonald's building that has been vacant for a while, will be a welcome addition to the Cleveland Park strip.  It will be a nice option for residents, and should provide a dining experience somewhere in between high-end spots like Dino or Ardeo and delis like Vace or Fresh Med, an intermediary that is somewhat lacking in Cleveland Park.

Amsterdam Falafelshop of Adams Morgan Becoming a National Franchise

This story, about one of my favorite food spots in Adams Morgan, comes to us from Amy Bannon:

A restaurant in Adams Morgan, with word-of-mouth so strong it brings people from as far away as New York and Richmond to eat their food, officially announced today that it is franchising.

The Amsterdam Falafelshop is a fast casual restaurant located at 2425 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan that serves falafel sandwiches with the customers' choice of 21 different sauces and toppings, Dutch-style fries referred to as "frieten" and rich brownies. The shop with its edgy, international vibe was inspired by the falafel "street food" that is so popular throughout Amsterdam and other European cities.

Upcoming Sierra Nevada Beer Dinner at new Elephant & Castle

Most of my posts are going to be about beer reviews in the greater DC area, specifically in Adams Morgan.  But, today, I had to write about a great beer event that I heard about from Aaron Gordon, manager at Elephant & Castle on 19th and I st., that is happening this coming Sunday September 19th.  Now, usually I am not big into promoting these things, but this is a great deal, and if you like Sierra Nevada, then this is a must attend event for you!  Here are the details:
