History Repeats Itself – except this Time, Broad Branch Road, NW will be Repaired and Reopened

We heard that the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is developing a plan to repair and reopen Broad Branch Road, NW which was closed last week as a safety precaution after a sinkhole developed in the roadway.  Engineers determined that a culvert for a creek had structurally failed, and that a further collapse of the roadway was imminent.

Same thing happened to Klingle Road.

Rock Creek Parkway Construction Continues On

Rock Creek Parkway Construction Continues On

Okay, so I know it's been going on for a while now, but I'm becoming officially sick and tired of this Rock Creek Parkway construction.

It feels as though the roadwork has been going on for years now, and every time I drive down Rock Creek it seems as though the area that they're working on has somehow expanded.

The amount of cones and construction markers that litter the road is insane, and cuts driving space in half.

Is this construction starting to drive you nuts, like it is to me?  Is your commute taking a lot longer recently because of the construction?

Let us know.  Fill out our poll and sound off in our comments section below.

DooWop Talent...On A Metro Platform?

DooWop Talent...On A Metro Platform?

I'm sure many of you have already encountered After The Storm, as this certainly isn't breaking news, but I figured a video of the group was warranted.

Plus, we want to get your opinion on their musical abilities.

For those of you who don't know After The Storm, they are a group of four men, generally dressed in Washington Redskin jerseys, that sing old school DooWop music on Metro platforms to entertain people who are waiting on trains.

Check out the video above, taken at Metro Center, which features the group singing songs like "My Girl" and explaining why they always wear Redskin jerseys to perform.

What do you think about the group?  We want to know.

If You're Visiting the National Zoo.....Bring some Patience Along With You!

Traffic couldn't be any worse than it is this week in our city.  Lots of kids are off from school and parents are heading them to the zoo.  From early morning and until rush hour begins, Connecticut Avenue, NW has been backed up from Cleveland Park to the entrance of the zoo and getting there will take some extra time and patience.  We recommend taking Metro, getting off at either Cleveland Park or Woodley Park.  Both will get you there.

Spend It Like It’s Your Own

Spend It Like It’s Your Own

You may have heard that tempers are flaring over the planned metro station at Dulles. According to news reports, the board at Dulles International Airport stands behind its decision to build an underground station because it would be more 1) convenient for travelers, and 2) attractive than an above ground station.

So, it behooves us to ask about the degree of perceived inconvenience. How would using an above ground metro station compare with:

DDOT Announces City-Wide Pay By Phone Parking Program

DDOT Announces City-Wide Pay By Phone Parking Program

This story comes to us from John Lisle:

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Parkmobile today announced a program that will allow residents, workers and visitors to use their mobile phones to pay for parking at all of the approximately 17,000 on-street metered spaces throughout the District of Columbia.

“We piloted pay by phone parking in select business districts, with great results, and now we’re ready to offer this service citywide,” said DDOT Interim Director Terry Bellamy. “It provides another, convenient payment option for drivers. Instead of paying with cash or a credit card, all it takes is a couple clicks with the mobile app or a short phone call and you’re on your way.”

Would You Pay This Much For a Parking Space?

Would You Pay This Much For a Parking Space?

So I saw this flyer pasted all over Adams Morgan.

It is advertising a parking space for rent in Woodley Park/Adams Morgan in an alley between Biltmore and Calvert streets.

The asking price is $200 per month.

We want to know if:

1. You think this asking price is appropriate for a spot in NW DC.

And 2. If you would ever spend that much on a parking spot.
